About
James Raymond is a Los Angeles based visual artist and video director. After graduating from Cal Arts, he created a short film called STIHL with renowned video artist James Benning. The movie was featured at festivals such as Slamdance and The San Francisco International Film Festival. James’s talent soon found its way to hip-hop and live music, where he transitioned his work aesthetic into live performance. Memorable productions included being the head creative director for Desiigner’s tour with Steve Aoki, creating online video content for Dotdagenius producer of the album “Kids see Ghosts”, and a U.S/Canadian tour with Rappers Cadence Weapon and Fat Tony. Inspired by other video artists such as Nam Jun Paik and Negative land James Raymond’s live visuals are often made up of found footage, digital animations and video feedback loops creating live video collages. The goal is to create a marriage between old VJ techniques with new more modern technology to create something unique, dreamlike, and memorable.
James Raymond’s style draws influence from both the LA underground music scene and experimental theater and cinema. His style is both humorous and dark in hopes to mirror a fantasy version of the darker parts of societies’ relationship with video, internet culture and media overstimulation. In his spare time Ja mes Raymond enjoys DJing and making Video Synth tutorials on Tik Tok. He is currently pursuing an MFA at CalArts with a métier in Interactive Media.
